The Arena

This is the area where I discuss my training methods and make notes about the progress of each horse.. With such a lot to do before the new babies are born next Spring I'll get straight to it.

Story Brook: Story Brook Stables is home to my herd of karabairs, which may soon be the largest herd in the Equine Ranch world. We are currently home to three Karabairs and three Local Stock. I have only one hour and forty minutes to work with the horses each day on each ranch. Travel between the two ranches eats up much of my day. Since the horses on this ranch are all new I began with groundwork. I believe it sets the stage for all future progress. Training starts the minute I hit the barn and buckle on the harness, attach the lead or work on doing those things if they aren't allowing. Since the Local Stock are for breeding purposes only they just get a quick 10 minute session and the Karabairs, who are destined for the show ring get two apiece. I then spend the last 10 minutes with whichever of the Karabairs needs a little extra attention that day. This is usually Willy the Space Cadet.

For now and until the foals are born the training schedule on a perfect day is listed below though I'll be the first to admit that there is NEVER a perfect day. I've been known to work with a horse and put him away and the bring him right back out again. Some days it's just hard to keep your head wear it's supposed to be amid phone calls, emergencies and all the day to day decision making I have to do. Each month I'll update this page with horses progress and current training notes. As foals are born the new handlers will be working with them. I'm hiring on some of Pureza's brothers and cousins as soon as they are able to get visas and such. Being an only child I think it will be good to have a big family around and Pureza has quickly become my best friend as well as my foreman.

Dolly - 10 minutes a day/ 30 days
Frost - 10 minutes a day/ 30 days
Tally - 10 mintutes a day/ 30 days
Curly - 20 minutes a day/ 30 days
Willie - 20 minutes a day/ 30 days
Queenie - 20 minutes a day/ 30 days

This schedule leaves 10 minutes to work with a horse who may be falling behind the others. These extra minutes will be noted as used in the updates.
